🎯 Getting Started

Advanced Flashcards WebApp helps you learn vocabulary through an interactive flashcard system. While it includes built-in Korean martial arts terminology, you can create custom decks for any subject!

🎓 Study Tabs

Understanding the Tabs

• Unlearned — Cards you haven't studied yet or marked as "Didn't Get It"
• Unsure — Cards you're still learning (marked as "Unsure")
• Learned — Cards you've mastered (marked as "Got It")
• All — View all cards in list format with search
• ⭐ Custom Set — Your starred cards for focused study

Studying a Card

1. Click the card (or press Space) to flip between term and definition
2. Mark your progress using the buttons below the card
3. Use arrow buttons or keyboard arrows to navigate
4. Click 🔊 Speak to hear pronunciation

📁 Edit Decks & Switch Subject

Create and manage multiple study decks for different subjects.

Accessing Edit Decks

Click ⚙️ More → scroll down to Edit Decks button, or find it in Settings.

Switch Tab

Switch between different study subjects:

1. Go to Edit Decks → Switch tab
2. See your available decks with card counts
3. Click the Switch button on the deck you want to study
4. The study view will reload with that deck's cards

Editing a Deck

Click the ✏️ button next to any user-created deck to edit its name or description.

Deleting a Deck

Click the 🗑️ button to delete a deck. This also removes all cards in that deck.

🤖 AI Card Generator

Generate flashcards automatically using AI from three different sources.

Accessing AI Generator

Go to Edit Decks → 🤖 AI Generator tab

Method 1: Keywords

1. Enter a topic (e.g., "Basic Spanish greetings" or "Chemistry periodic table")
2. Set max cards to generate (1-200)
3. Click 🔍 Generate
4. Review generated cards and select which to keep
5. Click "Add Selected Cards to Deck"

Method 2: Photo

1. Click the photo upload zone or drag an image
2. Upload a photo of study materials, textbook pages, or existing flashcards
3. Click 🔍 Extract
4. AI will read the image and create flashcards from the content

Method 3: Document

1. Upload a PDF, TXT, or MD file
2. Click 🔍 Extract
3. AI will read the document and generate vocabulary cards

Duplicate Filtering

The AI Generator automatically filters out terms that already exist in your deck. You'll see a message like "Generated 92 new cards. (8 duplicates filtered out)"

➕ Adding Cards Manually

Add individual cards to your deck with AI assistance.

Add Cards Tab

1. Go to Edit Decks → + Add Cards tab
2. Select your target deck from the dropdown
3. Enter the term (required)
4. Enter the definition (required)
5. Optionally add pronunciation and group/category
6. Click + Add Card

AI Assistance Buttons

Each field has a 🤖 button for AI help:

• Definition 🤖 — Generates 3 definition options to choose from
• Pronunciation 🤖 — Generates phonetic pronunciation
• Group 🤖 — Suggests category names based on existing groups

Your Added Cards

Click "Show" under "Your Added Cards" to see all cards you've created. You can edit or delete them from here.

⭐ Custom Set (Starred Cards)

Create a personalized study set by starring cards you want to focus on.

Adding Cards to Custom Set

• In the All tab, click ☆ next to any card to star it
• On study cards, click the ⭐ button to toggle star
• Starred cards appear in the ⭐ Custom Set tab

Studying Custom Set

• Click the ⭐ tab to switch to Custom Set mode
• Custom Set has its own internal status tracking (separate from main deck)
• Use the 🎲 dice button to study a random subset of starred cards

Pick Random N

In Custom Set, click the 🎲 button and enter a number to study a random selection of your starred cards.

🧩 Word Breakdowns

View the meaning of each part of compound terms.

Viewing Breakdowns

When a card has a breakdown, you'll see it displayed on the definition side. Each part shows:

• The original syllable/word part
• Its meaning
• Optional pronunciation guide

Creating Breakdowns

1. Click the "Breakdown" button on a card
2. Add parts using "+ Add part"
3. Use "Auto-fill" to let AI suggest breakdowns
4. Click "Save" to store the breakdown

⚙️ Settings

Customize your study experience. Access via ⚙️ More button.

Study Settings

• Randomize cards — Shuffle order for study sessions
• Reverse cards — Show definition first, term on back
• Show group labels — Display category pill on cards

Voice Settings

• Voice selection — Choose from available system voices
• Speech rate — Adjust speaking speed
• Auto-speak on card change — Automatically speak when navigating
• Speak definition on flip — Speak when card flips to back
• Speak pronunciation only — Only speak the phonetic version

Display Settings

• Show breakdown on definition — Display word breakdowns on card back

🔄 Syncing Progress

Keep your progress synchronized between devices (web and Android app).

Push & Pull

• Push — Upload your current progress online
• Pull — Download your saved progress

How Sync Works

Each card's status has a timestamp. When syncing, the most recent change wins. This allows offline study on multiple devices.

Sync Breakdowns

Click "Sync Breakdowns" to download all shared word breakdowns.

❓ Troubleshooting

Common Issues

• Progress not saving? — Make sure you're logged in. Check the user icon in the top right.
• Deck not switching? — Click the "Switch" button on the deck, not just the deck row.
• AI Generation failing? — Check that API keys are configured in Admin → AI Access.
• Cards not showing? — Ensure you've switched to the correct deck.
• Voice not working? — Check browser supports speech synthesis and volume is up.
• Sync issues? — Try logging out and back in, then pull again.
